All Set For NPP Regional Delegates Conference

Mr Curtis Perry Kwabla Okudzeto, Acting Director of Communication of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday said the party has completed all necessary arrangement for the holding of its Regional Delegates Conference slated for Saturday, January 25. Mr. Okudzeto told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that all logistics in terms of ballot papers and voting materials have been dispatched to the various centres through the supervision of the Electoral Commission. The position being contested for includes Regional Chairman, first Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary and Assistant Secretary, Organizer, Treasurer, Youth Organizer, Women Organizer and Nasara Club representative. Mr Okudzeto noted that key national and party institutions have been mandated towards facilitating the elections to ensure a peaceful and smooth process. �The Electoral Commission has been called upon to help in organizing the election whilst the Ghana Police Service will be responsible for security at the various polling stations,� he added. He said the party�s Election Committee was solely in charge, in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, adding that, a representative from the national headquarters will be present at each region to supervise the election. He said the election will take place within the hours of 0900 hours and 1700 hours and the results will be declared at the various polling stations. About 5,000 delegates will be voting for an estimated 267 candidates, contesting for the various positions. Mr. Okudzeto wished all the contestants from the 275 constituencies across the country a successful election. Meanwhile a total of 31 candidates in the Central Region have filed their nominations to contest for 10 Regional Executive positions in the party. In all, 415 delegates from the 23 constituencies in the region would converge at the Swedru Town Hall to participate in the regional delegate�s conference of the Party. Mr Kwamina Duncan, the Regional Secretary, who is seeking re-election made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Cape Coast. At the Western Region, about 500 delegates from 26 constituencies in the region are expected to vote for their preferred candidates, which would be conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC), and supervised by the Regional Election Committee. The Western Regional Election Committee Chairman, Mr. Francis Arthur, told the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi that in all, 32 contestants are contesting for 10 vacant regional positions. At the Ashanti Region, more than 800 delegates from 47 constituencies would gather at the Old Laundry of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to cast their vote. Mr. Frederick Freduah Antoh, the Regional Chairman, who is not seeking re-election, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, a total of 37 candidates had filed their nominations to contest for various regional executive positions. In the Brong Ahafo Region, about 520 delegates, 16 each from the 29 constituencies in the region are expected to attend the one day congress to be held at the Pastoral Center in Sunyani. Mr Gabriel Kwame Awuah, Chairman of the NPP, Brong-Ahafo Regional Vetting Committee told the GNA that the party had requested for 10 policemen and six military officers to maintain and promote law and order. In the Volta Region, Mr Seth Tsikata, Office Manager, NPP Volta Regional Office told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Ho Polytechnic Auditorium would be the venue for the election in which a total of 415 delegates would be casting vote. A total of 32 members of the NPP in the Volta Region are vying for various positions.
