Many have argued that the perceived deep-seated factionalism which has reared its ugly head in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters between Nana Akufo Addo and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen prior to its National Delegates Congress in March this year defines the level of disarray in the opposition party.
Though NPP has successively elected its Regional Executives, some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes the just ended Regional Executives Contest was done on theback of factionalism to favor Nana Akufo Addo�s interest to contest in the 2016 general election.
But a member of the communication team of NPP, Asamoah Gyamfi believes it is normal to have factions in any political party which strive on competition to choose leaders as politics is about lobbying, influence and numbers to propagate one�s intended mission and vision.
��.but whichever way, there is nothing wrong with factionalism so long as there is competition; Politics is about lobbying and influence and the numbers you have to carry out and support you on your campaign�after the election, you come together as one family�, he disclosed on Okay Fm.
Assessing the party�s just-ended Regional Executive polls, Asamoah Gyamfi asserted that the factionalism and acrimony in this year�s election has been on the quiet as compared to the previous intraparty election.
��.it was too glaring. Four years ago, much much clearer and deeper, that certain group of NPP members belonged to Nana Akufo Addo and others were for Alan Kyerematen. Ever since I became an active member of the NPP, I can confidently say this year�s regional and national polls has seen less factionalism as compared to the previous one,� he observed.
��.now, there are so many people who used to follow Alan last four years but have deferred to support Akufo Addo to be retained; others too have deferred to Alan�s camp, asking for a change. For me, this factionalism which some claim has been reduced to serious infighting within NPP is perceived and unfounded. If you engage any NPP member in a conversation, all they are interested in is unity and competent leaders to secure victory in 2016 election,� he enlightened.
Inasmuch as he sees nothing wrong with factionalism in NPP, Asamoah Gyamfi has cautioned his party members to avoid the use of vituperative language against other candidates since those negative and abusive words can turn to be a weapon for the party�s opponent as the NDC did to Nana Akufo Addo in 2008 and 2012.
