Any Song That Has Sexually Explicit Lyrics Will Be Banned

In the mist of ongoing debates by the general public about which songs will make it on the nomination list of the 15th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs),Theresa Ayoade, Executive Director of Charter House, organizers of the event, has revealed that the event is meant only to reward songs that are morally sound. At the official press launch of what has been termed as the biggest music festival in Ghana currently, Mrs Ayoade disclosed that over the years, musicians have been advised to produce songs that are morally sound. We are rewarding songs that are morally sound and what we are also saying is that if you are to do any kind of music that you think is not fit for everybody and general consumption, please do radio edit so that when the radio stations are playing them, they will actually have some veiling of some explicit words. But it seems some of our musicians are still not doing that so some of those songs may suffer, Mrs Ayoade stated. She added that the VGMAs will ban songs that has sexually explicit or violent lyrics in them. This years event themed Music Everywhere, has a number of mini events lined up including a Nominees Unveiling Party and a Forum in March, the Music Everywhere Tour and Nominees Jam in April and the Academy voting and Industry Awards Nite in the same month with the final showdown at the Accra International Conference Centre in May. Deadline for submission of entries into the various categories within the calendar year is January 31.
