Wontumi Wouldve Won The Chairmanship With Or Without Money Fred Oware

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, a 36-year old businessman who was last Saturday elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been accused of bribing his way to the position. Chairman Wontumi, as he is affectionately called, is accused of inducing the delegates with money during his campaign tours in the Region in exchange for votes. At a delegates congress held in Kumasi, Chairman Wontumi polled 559 votes to beat former Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who polled 209 votes. Speaking on Asempa FM, Tuesday, the first-Vice National Chairman and Chairman Aspirant of the NPP, Mr Fred Oware has debunked assertions that the newly appointed chairman influenced delegates with money. Two weeks before the election, I personally went round some constituencies (in Kumasi) and what I heard about him (Chairman Wontumi) wasnt about money. With or without money, he would have won the election. I dont believe he influenced the delegates with money, he said Nonetheless, he admitted that Mr. Antwi-Boasiakos timing to donate a three-storey building office to the party was wrong.
