Build Kintampo University Now! - MP

The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Stephen Kunsu has called on government to act on its age old promise of transforming the Kintampo College of Health and Well-being into a fully-fledged University to take care of the development of health professionals for the sub-region. The MP in a statement on the floor of parliament argued out that the continual improvement in the academic performance of the university coupled with its commitment to its vision of educating to serve has necessitated the reality of the dream. The Rawlings administration, he said had prior to the establishment of the University of Development Studies (UDS) promised to make the college a campus for the new university, a dream which is yet to materialize. The colleges great performance led to an award for higher performance by the Paris-based Beatton Magazine for excellence in leadership last year. It is gratifying to note that many countries competed for the award and if by dint of hard work and dedication an institution located in Kintampo has won the Gold category, it is an honour not only to the college but to the whole nation, he said. Established in 1969 by the Ministry of Health, the college which has produced many health professionals is still faced with challenges including the lack of staff, accommodation, inadequate teaching and non-teaching staff as well as the encroachment of the colleges land, problems which Mr. Kunsu hoped would be corrected with the coming into reality of the promise to transform it into a university. Mr. Kunsu added the college has large tracts of land for projects and called on government to utilize the opportunity especially as encroachers are taking over the land by the day. He further congratulated the Director of the college, Dr. E.T Adjase and his hardworking staff for the feat they have chalked.
