Capitation Is Total Abuse

THE PUBLIC Action Against Corrupt and Abuse (PAACA) has called for the abolition of the capitation programme under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), because it is a total abuse. Mr. Abu Ramadan of Peoples Nation Convention explained that last Thursdays demonstration in Kumasi by PAACA was to register their displeasure about the toll Capitation grant is having on the people of Ashanti Region, hence the groups simple demand that capitation should be abolished. Addressing the demonstrators at the Ridge Military Park in Danyame, at the end of the protest march, Mr. Ramadan questioned why the President goes in for quality health care abroad, but does not want Ghanaians to enjoy quality health care. He described the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government as insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians and urged the masses to attend the next demonstration amid the galloping fuel price increment in their numbers. Another member of the group, Mr. Owusu Bempah, also noted that Ghanaians were living in a terrible era, saying those at the helm of affairs were stealing the scarce resources of the country, including the Merchant bank. He said quality health care was imperative in our daily lives, as human beings, but many were dying because of capitation. He disclosed that the emergence of capitation has led to the death of so many people in the most populous region in Ghana, attributing the situation to the absence of a competent leader to salvage Ghanaians. It is time to wake up and protest against the sale of state assets to party cronies. We must resist this oppression by President Mahama and his dead NDC administration. A policy analyst for PNC, Atik Mohammed, noted that the Mahama administration was a discriminatory Government. People of Ashanti have been discriminated against other parts of Ghana, thereby foisting deadly Capitation onto this Region, he added. He urged the crowd to step up their patriotism and demonstrate against President Mahama about his inefficiency in office. Earlier, the irate demonstrators had poured on the streets in Kumasi to protest against the looming Capitation grant and the sale of Merchant Bank by the ruling NDC Government. They nicknamed the First Gentle man of the land Kofi Dubai, following his Christmas holidays in the rich oil nation of United Arab Emirates. Market women abandoned their wares and joined in the procession, displaying placards which bore inscriptions like Capitation is a killer, Tweaa Capitation, Manhyia is silent, NDC Government is heartless, Say no to thieves and We need competent Government now, among others.
