Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Minister of Education, has again stressed that her Ministry would go after heads of institutions who charge students arbitrary fees. She said some were �going to the extent of repeating items on the same bill sheet meant for a particular term�. Prof Opoku-Agyeman was addressing the 60th Anniversary grand durbar of OLA Secondary School in Ho. �The reports and evidence we are constantly receiving on daily basis from the public through the Complaints Unit of the Ministry are very revealing. �I want to state emphatically that within the shortest possible time, such heads would be dealt with accordingly. �I am sorry we have to do this because this is the only option left,� Prof Opoku-Agyeman stated. She said a �national task force, will soon be dispatched to schools throughout the country to fish out more heads of schools whose activities keep many children out of school�. The Minister observed that �some of these heads might never have had secondary education, had their heads of schools behaved thus�. OLA Secondary Senior High School was founded in 1954 at Keta, but was moved to Ho in 1956. The theme for the anniversary was �60 Years of Holistic Catholic Education for Girls: the Prospects and Challenges�. Prof Opoku-Agyeman lauded the School for its high standards in discipline. She praised the Catholic Church for playing a great role in the advancement of formal education in the country, noting that �many of the high performing schools in Ghana have the Catholic Church behind them". Togbe Afede the Fourteenth, Paramount Chief of the Asogli Traditional Area, observed that imbuing honesty in students was an important way of tackling corruption in the country. He pledged Ghc10,000 towards an endowment fund for the school.
