Minister Calls For Loans For Three Regions

Mr Daniel Syme, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, has appealed to the Chief Executive Officer of the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, to give priority to the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions when it comes to the disbursement of loans. He said this when the CEO paid a courtesy call on him. Mr Syme told the CEO it was on record that the three regions were the most poverty stricken regions in the country and therefore must be given priority when it comes to disbursement of loans. Another concern the Deputy Minister expressed was the late disbursement of loans and said it was not helping the beneficiaries particularly women who pick the loans to either go into farming or trading, thus bringing them to square one of poverty. Responding, Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu said his request would be granted and explained that the delay in disbursement of the loan was due the lack of substantive CEO who was supposed to sign the cheques for the release of funds. She said disbursement would target the rural folks particularly women groups to help them improve upon their livelihood. She said the scheme had diversified its strategies by adding implements and farming inputs into its fold and would buy implements including tractors and nuts machine crashers for farming groups. Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu said she was happy when she visited some of the beneficiaries to inspect businesses they were engaged in.
