Ghanaians Must Regard The US Dollar As A Monster

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Machinery has called on Ghanaians to see the use of US dollars in transactions in the country as a monster crippling the local currency. His outcry is borne out of the steep depreciation of the cedi against the US dollar as every business transactions are done in the foreign currency, causing the cedi to lose its value in the country and on the international market. Though President Mahama has described those supporting his government in these difficult times as Wise Ghanaian politicians with the right attitude wrote on his Facebook wall that the depreciation of the Ghana cedi was not caused by decisions his administration took and attributed it to the Global Financial System, Gabby Assumeng believes the depreciation of the cedi can be attributed to the way the US dollar is treated in the country by the masses. The way we treat the dollar and fold it well into our wallets, we must begin to do same to our currency. We have to accept that our trading currency is the cedi and we must treasure it and make it as new as the dollars. Ghanaians must see the dollar as a monster and cherish our cedi as a treasure, he averred on Okay Fm. To those wishing for the downfall of the country because of political expediency, the NDC communicator cautioned that if President Mahama fails to accelerate development, the entire country stands to lose and not necessarily the NDC government.
