The UN Secretary-General has appealed to the people of the Central African Republic to lay down their weapons and end the bloodshed and killings in their country. An internal conflict, pitting Muslims against Christians has been going on for over a year. Two and a half million people, more than 50 per cent of the population are in need of humanitarian assistance.
