The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Tony Goodman, has admonished patients who visit health facilities to boldly but politely insist on their rights when they think they are being treated badly. He made these comments on NEAT 100.9 FM , during a panel discussion on the "Missing Baby Saga" at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. According to him, the insistence of one single person for the right thing to be done, led to an investigation that has disclosed that there were five missing babies and not one in the ongoing "Missing Baby Saga". Mr. Goodman�s advice comes on the heels of a 14-day ultimatum by the Ministry of Health for the management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to produce five babies declared missing at the facility. In the directive, Hon. Sherry Ayittey stated that, �With immediate effect the Board, Management and CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital [should] account for the corpse of the five (5) still born babies delivered on the said date within 14 working days for burial by the families,� Health Minister Madam Sherry Ayittey said at a press conference. �We are working hard to reduce neonatal deaths and also accelerating our effort of reducing maternal and child mortality and morbidity, that is why we take this issue seriously,� she added. However, the PRO of the Ministry believes this revelation has come to light due to the boldness and insistence of Suwaiba Mumuni whose baby is among the five missing babies. Though investigation is inconclusive, Mr. Goodman is of the view that the inquest into the happenings on that fateful day will educate patients on their rights.
