JAYEE University College Holds 8th matriculation

JAYEE University College, an accredited private university affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba has held its 8th matriculation ceremony in Accra for the 2013/14 academic year. Out of the 1,052 applicants, the university admitted 201 students for degree programmes and 72 for diploma, all constituting 273 students. Mr John Emmanuel Donkor, President of JAYEE University College, congratulated the new students for gaining admission into the school which is based on merit. He disclosed that the university could not admit the other applicants because of non-performance in Mathematics which many of the applicants had D7 and did not qualify per the Ghana Education Service (GES) criteria. He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Education and the GES to reconsider the admission criteria as most of the subjects at the universities can be done without Mathematics. Mr Donkor also supported the introduction of Entrepreneurship education as a compulsory course from the Junior High School level through to the tertiary education to be able to halt the current situation of unemployed university graduates. He also advocated for the introduction of Education as other compulsory courses at all tertiary institutions to guarantee that every national service personnel would be able to teach. He disclosed that the university has since last year beefed up its Journalism training programme and has successfully established a broadcast training studio, including a radio studio, which is currently functional, and a television studio which would be operational by June this year. Mr Donkor advised the new students to comply with deadlines and also shun provocative dresses. In a speech read on his behalf, Professor AkwasiAsabre-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba commended management of the school for transforming it from a Secretarial School to a University College. He announced that, in a bid to keep ahead of the competition, the management of JAYEE University College in collaboration with the University of Education, Winneba, would introduce two new faculties in the forthcoming academic year namely, the faculty of Hotel and Hospitality Management and faculty of Education. Prof Asabre-Ameyaw urged the new students to be disciplined and exhibit good behaviour to enable them realise their cherished dreams.
