'Sickle Cell' On Vodafone Healthline's Episode Two

Sickle cell anaemia, a serious disorder which occurs when a persons red blood cell lacks enough haemoglobin, will be the highlight of this weeks episode of HealthLine, the multiple award-winning television programme. Additionally, the panel doctors will answer viewers questions on medical myths and throw more light on sex, heatstroke and how to keep healthy. Vodafones HealthLine will be aired today on UTV at 9pm and this Thursday on TV3 at 8:00pm. The episode two will also feature the story of Juliana Opokua of Aseni in the Eastern region, who is diagnosed with facial tumour on the eye as well as the story of how Vodafone Ghana helps 10-year-old boy Illyass Somda of Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo region, who has been suffering with a brain tumour. According to doctors, sickle cell anemia is an inherited, lifelong disease. People who have the disease are born with it. They inherit two genes for sickle hemoglobin -- one from each parent. Though sickle cell anaemia has no widely available cure, doctors say treatments to improve the anemia and lower complications can help with the symptoms and complications of the disease in both children and adults. HealthLine is an innovation by Vodafone aimed at educating and empowering Ghanaians to take control of their health and improving the dissemination of healthcare information in the country.
