There Is No Law Regulating Ownership Of More Fire Arms In Ghana - Police Commander

There is no law regulating the number of fire arms one can purchase in Ghana. For as long one is prepared to register more than two guns in his name, the law permits him to carry on. But considering the spate of crime that has recently taken place in Ghana, a Deputy Commissioner of the Ghana Police Service believes it is about time the nation reviews individual ownership of firearms. DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, in an interview with Okay FM recounted that very often criminals and land guards acquire sophisticated weapons through real estate and chiefs. Even though there isnt a well defined law to regulate the acquisition of firearms, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu stated that it was a crime for owners to hand over their weapons to a second party to use. No one is permitted to register a gun in his name and give that same weapon to his personal security for use, he warned.
