Heavy Sanctions Await Ayittey Powers If GBA

The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has said, it will impose severe sanctions on Michael Ayittey Powers Okine, if he declines to fight Braimah Bukom Banku Kamoko in a Cruiser weight contest on May 16. Information gathered by the GNA Sports reveals that, the GBA has given the boxer up to Monday, April 14, to decide on the fight or he will be made to face severe sanctions. Alhaji Mutala Tawfik, a member of Executive Committee of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) told the GNA Sports that, they were getting frustrated with the conduct of Ayittey Powers hence the consideration. According to Alhaji Tawfik, Ayittey made demands for an increment in the purse for the match and was granted but has since failed to sign the supplementary contract as at the close of negotiations on Tuesday evening. He said, the GBA will not allow the boxer to drag the image of the sport into the mud because the fight has taken international dimension with huge investments from promoters and sponsors. I can assure you that, the sanctions will be very heavy because of the harm, the actions of Powers has caused to Ghana boxing. Nobody pushed him into the fight. He was the one who threw the challenge to Bukom Banku and it was accepted so we have been wondering why the sudden change of mind. Alhaji Tawufik said. Ayittey Powers, on Tuesday refused to sign a supplementary contract presented to him by the promoters. The boxer claimed he was ready to fight but needed further spiritual consultation to confirm the date.
