2 Fraudsters Grabbed

THE EASTERN Regional Police Command has arrested two suspected fraudsters,Kwabena Osei Agyaman,43, and Kwabena Appiah alias Amuzu,48 for defrauding 39 people under the pretext of recruiting them into the Ghana Police Service and Nursing Training Colleges. The suspects both residents of Koforidua -Effiduase are alleged to have collected not less than GH�2,000.00 from each victim. Briefing the media in Koforidua,the Eastern Regional Crime Officer, Chief Supt Edward Fakye Kumi said on April 3 this year, the police had information about the dubious activities of the two suspects who had paraded themselves as "Coordinators working with the National Disaster Management Organization and that can help their victims to be recruited and gain admissions into the Ghana Police Service and Nursing Training Colleges respectively.� He said the suspects charged their victims an amount ranging from GH�2,000.00 and above as connection fees. He said a police officer disguised as a parent who wanted her son to be enrolled via phone called to Amuzu. According to the Crime Officer,Amuzu demanded cash sum of GH�2000 which the disguised Police Officer agreed to pay. He revealed that Amuzu directed the police officer to his house at Effiduase for the payment which the officer complied and paid the cash of GH�2,000.00. He was, however, arrested the suspect immediately he collected the amount. The crime officer, Chief Supt Fakye Kumi stressed that Amuzu led the police to the house of his accomplice,Osei Agyeman who was subsequently arrested. He said a search conducted by the police on suspect Osei Agyeman led to discovery and retrieval of 39 certificates and passport pictures clipped to each other believed to be their victims. He said preliminary investigations showed that Osei Agyeman has collected a total cash of GH� 7,600.00 from his victims while GH� 900.00 has been given to Amuzu as his share of the money collected. The two suspects are now in police custody awaiting trial. The public are being urged by the police to desist from giving out monies to individuals or institutions with the aim of being enrolled or recruited and also report such characters to the police.
