Kufuors Appearance At Fortiz Re-branding Is His Right...Theres Nothing Wrong

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Team, John Kumah, has backed Ex-Prez Kufuor's presence during the official re-branding of Fortiz/Merchant Bank. According to him, Mr Kufours presence should not take centre stage of discussions on political platforms. John Kumah was speaking in relation to the re-branding of Merchant Bank, a financial institution whose sale to Private Equity Fund, Fortiz a couple of months ago generated quite a storm of controversy. During the initial stages of the sale, the New Patriotic Party expressed disgust over the transaction between Fortiz Equity Fund and government over the sale of Merchant Bank. The opposition party believed the deal between the two entities was fraudulent and prior to the sale of its 90 percent shares to Fortiz for GHC 90 million, they strongly called on government to rescind its decision. Government however sold the Bank to Fortiz and in view of this; some NPP members are unhappy with former President Kufour and former Chief of Staff, Mr. Kojo Mpianim for gracing the official rebranding ceremony. But speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Agyekum found it unalarming to find President Kufour during the rebranding of Merchant Bank. To him, he (President Kufour) only exercised his constitutional right as former President, you sometimes overlook partisanship political consideration if you want to look at issues that will unite the nation. As far as am concerned, theres nothing wrong if President Kufour honoured an occasion even though NPP as a party may have our own reservationsSo, I dont see any problem if former President Kufour in his capacity as former Head of State want to grace any occasion. It is his right to do so.
