Boxer Ayittey Powers has backed the Ga traditional council's decision to halt the May 16 bout between him and Bukom Banku at the Accra sports stadium due to the ban on drumming and noise making in the Greater Accra Region. It was reported last week that the widely anticipated bout between the two local boxing heroes, Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers would hit a new snag, after previous postponements. Some local chiefs in the Ga State called on the Ghana Boxing Authority [GBA] to reschedule the bout, which incidentally is between two natives of Bukom �� an Accra suburb. The chiefs say the bout, which has been scheduled for May 16, 2014, will disturb the annual ban on drumming and noise making, which precedes the yearly Homowo Festival of the Gas, but Powers says he is in agreement with the chiefs to halt to bout. �They (Osu Traditional Council) are right. The fans could be oriented to stay calm and avoid noise making during the fight but they would definitely make noise in their bid to celebrate or protest after the bout so I understand the decision to want to stop the fight from taking place at the Accra Stadium but the Promoter (Alex Ntiamoah) will have the final say,� Ayittey Powers told Campionesport.com. Two previous postponements of the much-anticipated bout sparked a firestorm of public anger, compelling the GBA to threaten sanctions against Powers for being truant.
