May Day Bonanza �Kumawu To Enjoy Potable Water By 2015 After 41yrs Of Tthirst

RESIDENTS OF Kumawu and its adjoining communities heard the most sizzling news during this year�s May Day celebration with the announcement that they are set to be relieved of the perennial water crisis they have been battling with for the past forty- one years. They will be enjoying potable water supply by 2015,Castro Tweneboa-Kodua, the administrator of Tahal Engineers has disclosed. Kumawu, one of the traditional towns in the Ashanti region has been trying to find a lasting solution to water problem it has been groping within til 2011 when the government secured $250 million to construct a dam on the Afram River so that the residents can have access to potable and continuous water supply. The project which is being executed by the Tahal Group Consulting Engineers Procurement Management and sub-contracted to Consar Construction Limited is about 70% complete. The administrator of Tahal Engineers, Castro Tweneboa-Kodua who disclosed this to the Daily Heritage in an interview at Kumawu during a football gala competition to mark the May Day celebration (workers� day) said the project will benefit communities such as Kumawu, Konongo and Kwahu Ridge among others. He explained that the Konongo and Kwahu project is concerned with rehabilitation while that of Kumawu is anew project all together. He announced that laying of pipe lines through towns such as Woraso, Abotanso, Besro, Bodumase, Temante, Pepiase and Kwaman �Jeduakoto join the Afram River where the dam is to be sunk has been completed. He said very soon the main work of constructing the dam would start and it is expected to be completed within the next 15-16 months. �We are hoping by the middle of 2015 people of Kumawu and the other beneficiary communities would begin to enjoy pipe born water after forty �one years of no good water. �We are very elated over the project, our heart goes to the government in particular, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor who played an instrumental role to ensure that the project sees the light of the day,� he remarked. According to him, the football match was organized in order to promote peace and unity among the youth in the area. Three teams took part in the completion namely, the District Assembly, Tahal /Consar and Kumawu United. The wining team took home GH�300.00, the runners up GH�200.00 and the third placed team GH� 100.00. Mr Tweneboa �Kodua urged the country�s work forces to be committed to their national duties to help increase national productivity.
