Madina MTTU Arrests 44 Offending Drivers

The Madina Division of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of Ghana Police Service, on Tuesday arrested 44 vehicles, which parked at unauthorised places within its jurisdiction. The two and half-hour exercise, was led by the Divisional Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Michael Asiedu, accompanied by 20 policemen. The exercise started around 0900 hours at Atomic Junction Overhead. Some of the vehicles arrested had parked close to Atomic Benab Filling Station, which ASP Asiedu said was dangerous in case of fire disaster. Seven DV vehicles which were not displaying their number plates were also apprehended. Some of the drivers had not recorded their movements in their log books, others were not carrying their driving licenses, while some of them were driving with expired DV plates. Some people were also arrested for engaging in a conversation on their mobile phones while some commercial drivers were apprehended for turning at unauthorised places. ASP Asiedu said under the Legislative Instrument 2180 of Road Traffic 2012, Section 107 (1) drivers behind their steering wheels are prohibited to carry any means of device for communication purpose. He said the offending drivers would be screened and arraigned.
