ACEP Programmes Director Asks Govt to Stop Offering New Oil Contracts

The Director of Programmes at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, Benjamin Boakye has asked government to stop offering new oil exploration and production contracts to oil companies until the efficient and value for money Exploration and Production Bill which has been approved by Cabinet is passed into law by Parliament. This is to check some challenges with the present system where sole sourcing rather than competitive bidding is practiced. In an interview with Radio Ghanas Dominic Hlordzi in Elmina, Mr. Boakye said the country will derive maximum benefit from the oil production if due diligence is done in awarding the contracts based on a solid legal and contractual regime. Mr. Boakye also raised concerns about the inefficient utilization of revenues from the oil fields.
