The Youth in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region are demonstrating against mining company, Newmont. They are accusing Newmont of not considering people in the host communities of the Akyem mine when it comes to employment. They also claim that the company has reneged on its promise to repair their roads. Meanwhile, Newmont says it is aware of the demonstration at its Akyem mine and intends to sit with the youth and community leaders to deal with their grievances.
