Sanitation Costs Ghana GH750m Annually

Ghana spends over GH750 million annually on sanitation related issues, Seth Acquah, Head of Research and Policy at Zoom Alliance, a sanitation company, has noted. Speaking at a breakfast meeting organized by the Department for Hotels, Catering and Institutional Management at Accra Polytechnic, Mr. Acquah stated that that excluded costs on sanitation related diseases. The breakfast meeting is an annual exercise by students of the polytechnics Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Department to demonstrate their skills in the preparation of various foods, beverages and accommodation. This years event, according to Vida Doku, a Food and Beverage Lecturer of the department, centred on how to prepare English breakfast for a business meeting. The students, Mrs. Doku said, demonstrated their creativity in preparing the breakfast and thus praised them for being able to use little resources to prepare such a breakfast. Mr. Acquah further noted that improved sanitation encourages tourism and investment, which contributes largely to the national income and development. Poor sanitation is a result of human actions and improved sanitation is equally a result of human action. Now is the time to act wisely. Dorothy Anima Frimpong, a lecturer at the Computer Science Department of the school, in her closing remarks, urged Zoom Alliance to provide more refuse bins to sort out their refuse from their households before being transported to the site.
