A YOUTH group calling itself �Alan Cash Fun Club� has rallied support for the twice defeated flag bearer hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen and described Nana Akufo-Addo as someone whose time is over. They youth group are urging the rank-and-file of the party to vote Mr. Kyerematen when the party holds its congress to elect its flag bearer later this year. The group which thronged the street in the party�s colours and T-shirt amidst singing and drumming said the man is the best person to win power for the party. According to them, Mr Kyerematen was a member of the National Executive Committee which is one of the highest decision making bodies of the party between 1992 and 2001. Addressing the members of the youth, Abeka Fazet, the leader of the group noted that as a member of the Finance Committee and Economic Management Team, Mr. Kyerematen will win the 2016 election for the party if given the opportunity. �Our first challenge, therefore, as party members is how to fix our party. In 2008 and 2012 elections, resources that were mobilized for our campaign did not go down well with the party executives and as party executives we cannot work without resources. �In our last two elections, the party structures were side-lined and resources were rather controlled by individuals close to the flag bearer. If we want to win power in 2016, this must change, as well as allowing campaign resources go directly to party executives including polling station executives. �What NPP needs now is a new leader who will channel resources directly to the party executives and that man is Alan Kyerematen,� he said. Mr. Fazet noted that the second challenge has to do with a presentation of a new leader who can lead the party, adding that, what the members are looking for is not just a flag bearer, but a new leader who can take the party back to power. �We need a leader who appeals to floating voters. As a party we have lost two successive elections which we should have won hands down. �Nana Akufo-Addo has already had three chances-2008; run-off in 2008 which is a complete election in itself, with three weeks of campaigning; new ballot papers; all the over 23,000 polling stations were involved nationwide and President declared on the basis of the run-off and not the basis of the first election and if you check the results of the 2008, 2008 run-off and the 2012 elections, Akufo-Addo is becoming less and less popular at the general elections.� He indicated that in 2008, with the power of incumbency, the NPP led in the first round of elections by 49.9 per cent, but in the second round their votes even dropped further to 49.7 per cent and it went further down in 2012 to 47.7 percent. Mr. Fazet explained that �Alan offered to resign for the sake of the party�s peace and unity. However, the party did not accept his resignation, but made commitment to address the issue raised by Alan, therefore, the resignation did not make any effect. If Alan resigned as is being suggested, why was he allowed to contest 2010 flag bearership primary? �Why was he allowed to tour the whole country with Nana Addo? On the other hand, Akufo-Addo did not only resign in 1979; together with other individuals, he formed another political party UNC which fought against PFP, the mother party of NPP in 1979 and even in the run-off, Akufo-Addo�s UNC refused to come into alliance with PFP, but rather joined forces with PNP to defeat PFP,� they further stated.
