KG Pupils Ridiculous Classroom Needs Help

PUPILS OF Presbyterian Junior High School at Breman Bedum in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central region are living in fear and have become the laughing stock of truants and school dropouts in the community because their classrooms are very dilapidated. Information gathered by Daily Heritage indicates that the classroom which has become a death trap is where the Kindergarten pupils, in particular, sit and learn while the primary and the Junior High Schools are located at a different place. According to a pupil of the school, William Nketia, one of the classrooms which had been rejected due to the deplorable state has now become a path the people walk through while some of the pupils go there to eat when it is lunch time. The pupil added that another classroom which was not locked is believed to be for safe keeping of the schools property. The teachers always go for the services of some residents to guard the classroom which is not locked, but these residents always steal some of the books and other documents they keep there and it has become a worry to us, he cried. He revealed that efforts to call on authorities attention to rectify the situation had proven futile. We have informed the headmaster and he said they would rebuild it, but nothing has since been done to it. The buildings have some portion of its roofed chopped off while some parts have developed some grievous cracks around it. Reports also indicated that any time it rains, the pupils are compelled to close and halt teaching and learning because the rooms leak which affects teaching and learning in the area. They are, therefore, calling on government to as a matter of urgency put some measures in place for them because they believe that they are not treated fairly because their lives are at risk. They noted that the dilapidated building which is meant for the Kindergarten should be relocated because they are too vulnerable to be in that building. The District Chief Executive, Samuel Adom Botchwey was not available to comment on the issue at the time of our visit.
