V/R CPP Congratulates Samia And Mourns P.V. Obeng

THE VOLTA Region branch of the Convention People�s Party (CPP) has congratulated its chairperson Samia Yaba Nkrumah on her recent award for championing the ideals of his late father globally. She was recently honoured for her meritorious service to humanity and has decided to use the award to the memory of his late father Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP said it also recognizes with immense satisfaction, the role Samia Nkrumah is playing to unite all the �Nkrumaist� family particularly the CPP/PNC merger which according is the Volta CPP will position them well for the electorates to have confidence in them and give them their mandate. The �Nkrumaists� have on many occasions considered merging to improve their prospects of winning political power but the odd never favoured them. Speaking with Daily Heritage in an interview recently in Ho the regional Chairman of the party Vincent Norgbedzi urges the leadership of CPP to enforce the decision taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) at Tamale especially their time table. Ideals of CPP He said giving priority to industrialization in the country has completely being destroyed by successive governments which contributed to the country economic woes. He is therefore appealing to the citizenry to get back to the drawing board to implement CPP ideas for the country to regain its freedom economically and politically. Mr Norgbedzi however congratulated Prez John Dramani Mahama belatedly for being elected ECOWAS Chairman, believing that he can deliver and therefore urges him not to be swayed by the numerous attacks on him by his detractors. Economy The regional Chairman said the country�s economy is very fragile especially the fall of the cedi against the major currencies in the global market and noted that the unstable nature of the Cedi is affecting commerce. Mr Norgbedzi who is a tax expert said measure put in place by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) is not working even though they are there; its effect on the cedi is most worrisome. �We need pragmatic reforms to enable the cedi stabilize� he advised. The chairman called for the obligation of contract with foreign act drilling Companies; saying the contract signed by the Kufuor led NPP administration is not only killing but human unfriendly. According to him the CPP is against the situation whereby crude oil is refined outside the country even though it is from THE SHOVES OF Ghana and it uses our hard earned foreign currency to purchase the end product. He said the CPP believes the capacity is there to refine the crude oil in the country which will also generate employment opportunities for citizenry. �This practice is affecting the economy� he intoned. Mr Norgbedzi did not mince words when he said lots of benefit could be derived of Crude Oil from the Jubilee field is refined in the country which can generate enough revenue for the development of the country. Unity He recommended the peace and unity that is existing between the new regional executives and the old and said they are enjoying unbelievable cooperation from them (old executives) unlike the previous past chairman Norgbedzi was happy lot of changes had come to NPP and hope the newly elected National executives will translate it to championing a good course for the country. �I hope the newly elected national executives will champion peace, unity and cooperation in their party and the larger Ghanaian community without recourse to acrimony and selfishness.� He was not happy about the boycott of the National economic forum by the NPP and advised them to think of Ghana first before any other thing. The regional chairman extended the party�s heartfelt condolence to the family of the late Paul Victor Obeng the immediate past chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) and a senior advisor to President Mahama on his untimely Death saying Ghana has lost a Geon.
