Police To Conduct Mass Burial For Unclaimed Bodies

The Police hospital says it will conduct a mass burial for unclaimed bodies in its morgue. The exercise which will take effect from May, 21, 2014 is aimed at decongesting the hospital morgue. In an interview with Citi News, the Public Relations Officer for the police hospital ASP Juliana Obeng explained that the exercise will be carried out on a daily basis for a period of seven days. She also reminded families who had not claimed the remains of their relatives to do so within the next seven days to avoid the mass burial. We have given a period of seven days for the identification and collection starting from today. After next week Tuesday we will meet with the city authorities and make our own arrangements for the mass burial, she said. ASP Obeng further expressed hope that the general public will comply with this directive. We hope that people come for their bodies because during past exercises, the bodies have remained unclaimed. ASP Juliana Obeng also explained how the bodies ended up at the police morgue. The unknown fridge is for bodies that are picked up by the police and even civilians. These bodies are mostly unknown persons, she added.
