THE NKAWKAW District Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Yaw Dafour for allegedly raping his 11-year-old niece at Ampekrom, near Nkawkaw in the Eastern region. The suspect is in police custody awaiting trial at the law court. Information gathered by the Daily Heritage indicates that a teacher of the victim lodged a complaint at the police upon noticing that the victim was bleeding while in school. Information gathered indicates the suspect sexually abused the victim on several occasions before his arrest. According to sources, the suspect lives with the niece and her mother in a family house at Ampekrom. The modus operandi of the suspect is that he commits the act whenever he is alone in the house with the victim. On Thursday, the suspect noticing that no one was in the house, once again sexually abused the victim; however, the victim bled the following day while in class. Sources say a teacher of the victim noticed the blood stain on the victim's uniform and when interrogated narrated her ordeal to the teacher who later led the victim to the police station and lodged a complaint which led to the arrest of the suspect. The victim told the police the suspect threatened her not to disclose to anyone and that whenever she does that, she will die When contacted, DSP Yirenkyi of the Nkawkaw Police outfit confirmed the story, adding that the police are waiting for medical report on the victim to enable the police prosecute the case; however the suspect will be sent to court to be remanded in police custody to assist in investigations.
