NUGS, GNAT Gives Government Ultimatum

The National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS has given government a two week ultimatum to address some challenges in the education sector. NUGS is seeking the immediate release of an outstanding transfer of 558 million Ghana Cedis said to be allocated to the Ghana Education Trust Fund. At a news briefing in Accra the President of NUGS Sammy Binfoh Dakwah said if government fails to address their concerns the students will embark on a series of sustained demonstrations and also see redress at the courts. Meanwhile the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT has also slated the end of June as an ultimatum to government to implement its grievances presented before it. The association also bemoaned what it calls the lukewarm attitude of government towards the demands of workers in the country. At a news conference in Accra the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of GNAT, Yonney Akpakli pointed out that it will resort to strike to address their issues, since that is the only language government understands.
