Pastor Appeals For A Third Bridge On The Volta River

Reverend Sammy Amoako, Acting Moderator, Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Ghana, has appealed to the government to consider constructing a third bridge on the lower course of the Volta River in addition to the two at Sogakope and Adomi. He explained that an extra bridge would ease the traffic burden on the two and quicken travel time in the face of increasing vehicular traffic in the country. Rev Amoako made the suggestions in a sermon at a thanksgiving service to climax the EP Church Southern Presbytery Fifth Synod at Aflao. He said a traffic boom should also be anticipated when the Eastern Corridor road, linking the South to the North, finally opened up. The Synod theme was: The God of life, lead us to justice, peace and dignity for wholeness. Rev. Amoako also called for the re-institution of the Arbor Day a day reserved for tree planting. He said bringing that Day back would impact positively on Ghanas fight against deforestation. The widespread damage to buildings and other property aside human injuries even in minor rainstorms are due to the absence of trees as windbreaks, Rev Amoako stated. The Acting Moderator also called for redesigning of the KVIP and said Many KVIPs have become dangerous and nasty for use particularly by school children. Rev. Amoako announced plans of the church to establish a College of Education at Dzodze in the Volta Region to train teachers as well as mango and woodlot plantations as income support ventures. He condemned the abduction of nearly 300 school girls in Nigeria by the Boko Haram and appealed to political leaders to help seek their release and prayed for divine intervention.
