Chief Goes Wild

Baffuor Kyei II, the Gyasihene of Fomena in the Ashanti Region, has expressed disgust over reports that some courts had granted bail to suspected armed robbers that police personnel risked their lives to arrest in the region. He said the development could dampen the morale of police personnel and appealed passionately to the law courts to ensure that suspected hardened criminals were sentenced accordingly. This, he stated, would serve as deterrent to other hoodlums who intend to terrorize innocent people in society. Baffuor Kyei II said the development could put the lives of police personnel in danger. He stated that such criminals, when granted bail, could attack the police personnel that arrested them in a violent fashion, adding that they could also intensify their robbery activities. Baffuor Kyei II made the remarks when the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, accompanied by Jojo Bebli, a Ghanaian security expert in London and other senior police officers, visited the Adansihenes palace. The Adansihene, Nana Bonsra Afriyie II appealed to Ghanaians residing overseas to support the police both in cash and kind so that they could intensify the fight against crime. The Adansihene commended the police for effectively maintaining law and order in the country and urged the public to continually provide the police with information to enable them arrest criminals from their hideout. DCOP Kofi Boakye, on his part, entreated other police personnel to make sacrifices to protect life and property. He charged District Chief Executives (DCEs), who are the heads of the Security Council in their localities, to cooperate with the police to foil the fiendish plans of criminals before they struck. The police chief charged the communities, notably the opinion leaders, to spearhead the construction of police stations in their respective areas.
