June 30 - July 6 Declared National Week Of Prayer And Thanksgiving

In a bid to unite to develop the country, leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana in collaboration with National Catholic Secretariat, Council of Independent Churches, National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council have declared June 30 to July 6, 2014 as the National Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving. National Coordinator of the National Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, who is also the General Secretary of Christian Council of Ghana disclosed this at a press conference held in Accra on Tuesday. According to him, the religious leaders are organizing the prayer and thanksgiving session to show appreciation to God for his mercies and goodness even in the midst of the country�s challenges. �1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 which reads; �pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks for this is God�s will in Christ Jesus� is an encouragement from Apostle Paul which further emphasizes the need for prayer and thanksgiving, irrespective of what we are going through and where we find ourselves�, he stressed. Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong leading the various councils for the crusade posited that Christians must always acknowledge their relationship with God as prayer is pivotal to their spiritual journey, national life and development, adding Christians must never relent on depending on God for survival. Touching on this year�s week of Prayer and Thanksgiving theme dubbed �Bind Us Together Oh Lord� taking from the book of John 17:21, Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong averred that there is the need for national reconciliation, unity and closer walk with God. ��..His Excellency President John Mahama at the Flagstaff House tasked the Christian Council of Ghana to coordinate the organization of the National Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving without government interference��in light of the above, we have therefore slated June 30 to July 6, 2014 as the National Week of Prayer and Thanksgiving. The week will be observed in all communities, districts and regional capital and will also be organized by leaders of our various member churches��the climax of the week, which will be the thanksgiving service has been scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka at 10am�, he disclosed. Speaking in an interview with Peacefmonline.com Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong said the activities include fasting, unity walk, prayer meeting for children, youth, women, men, Christian mission in Ghana, political parties, judiciary, indigenous businesses, legislature, government, economy, health, peace, stability and security. He added that these activities are not meant to make those at the helm of affairs to sit idly by but rather it is a call to adhere to prayers and also use their skills to plan properly and implement measures that will address the needs of Ghanaians.
