Fire Service Cautions Public On Electrical Gadgets During Load Shedding

The Ashanti regional fire office, is calling on the public to be extra careful with electrical gadgets within the load shedding period. Their call comes in the wake of an unplanned intensified load shedding exercise currently being run at random in the country. The erratic power supply usually comes with fluctuating voltages of electricity. This according to the fire service could trigger fire both in homes and commercial areas. Speaking to ultimate radio, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Fire Service, Desmond Accah strongly advocated that electrical gadgets be turned off and unplugged whenever the lights go out. �We would always advise that when you are leaving home or the office, you switch off your mains and then unplug the plugs from the sockets,� he emphasized. He however added that for gadgets that had to be left on for twenty four hours, users must get automatic fire suppression systems installed on them or ensure that someone is always on hand to check on them. Desmond Accah also expressed the need for the public to employ qualified electricians for all their electrical fittings and installations. He stressed that worn out wires and broken extension boards should be replaced to prevent any accidents which could be fatal.
