Fire Outbreak Injures Man, Destroys Property

Fire broke out at a pre-mix fuel station at the Agyeza Landing Beach, near Tikobo Number One, in the Jomoro District at the weekend, severely injuring one man and destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis. The cause of the outbreak was not immediately known. Mr. Stephen Ackah Blay, 48, the fire victim, a pumping station attendant at the landing beach had his foot burnt and was rushed to a nearby Health Centre where he was treated and discharged at night. Mr Joseph Buobae, Division Officer III at the Half-Assini Fire Station, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Half-Assini that the cause of the fire was being investigated. He said one Patrick Kwadwo called his out-fit to inform them about the fire outbreak at 2100 hours and firemen were immediately dispatched to the scene. Mr. Buobae said when his team arrived at the scene about 26 minutes later, the fire was raging, but it was brought under control in about one and half hours. He said the fire spread to a nearby four-bedroom house and partially damaged one room. According to the Divisional Officer, the fire destroyed 16 drums of premix fuel, 21 large empty rubber drums, three booklets of coupon invoices, Petrol Station Certificate and ninety Ghana Cedis cash. Mr. Buobae said the fire outbreak was the eighth incident recorded in the district this year.
