Mining companies have been advised against retrenching high skilled mine workers because they may increase the woes of the mining companies by entering into illegal mining and thereby becoming a security threat. If this happens, mining companies may end up committing more resources to contain consequences of the retrenchment. Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Yaw Effah-Baafi, gave the advice when Newmont Ghana Gold and its host communities signed the revised Ahafo Social Responsibility Agreement in Sunyani.
