Filling Stations Hoard Fuel

Fuel Shortage is said to hit parts of Accra as some filling stations have started hoarding super (gasoline) in anticipation of a speculated fuel increment. Some of the places the Daily Heritage visited indicated that there was shortage of Super Fuel. At the 37 total filling stations, for instance, there was a shortage of Super Fuel and customers were seen stranded, but other products were available. According to them, instead of selling the fuel, they would keep it for future use because when the increment occurs, they would have no option than to sell at an increased price. Meanwhile, reports gathered by the paper from the Tema Oil Refinery indicated that trucks which are supposed to move to and fro to deliver fuel have been parked. It is believed that these trucks which are supposed to carry fuel to the various fuel stations have refused to do so unless they are given the permission to. According to sources, that could also account for the shortage in fuel in some filling stations in Accra. However, at Fraga Oil Filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, there was fuel as some drivers were seen filling their vehicles without any problem. The supervisor at the station said they have no idea of any fuel price hike and told the paper they had enough fuel for drivers. Also, at SO filling station, an attendant who refused to give her name noted that their station is different from the other stations in the sense that they would only increase fuel when they have been notified by the authorities in charge. She said there is enough of Super Fuel at their station.
