One Person Found Dead After Thursday's Downpour

The body of an unidentified middle-aged woman has been found in a drain following hours of rain which left parts of Accra flooded on Thursday. The body was found at Dome-Crossing, a suburb of Accra. It is the first reported case of death after several hours of rains in the Greater Accra, Central and Volta Regions. The body of the woman was found trapped in between the pillars of a footbridge in front of the house of Mr Peter Mark Manu, a former chairman of the New Patriotic Party and close to the Dome constituency office of the NDC, an eyewitness told Joy FM. It is however not clear, whether the woman was a resident of the area or that the body was carried by the flood waters to the area. The police have since picked the remains of the woman to the mortuary. Thursdays downpour brought many activities to a halt and destroyed properties, including vehicles and buildings. Parts of the city were submerged in water during the downpour. Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has visited some of the affected areas.
