Is Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Becoming Ungovernable?

Many Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) have either been elevated from within the ranks of staff of Korle-bu Teaching hospital or are appointed from outside to come help manage the premier hospital. These CEOs, barely settle down to do their work before agitations and calls for their removal start making the news in the media. The Board of Directors has also had their fair share of agitations and accusations. The calls have been largely due to what the workers describe as mismanagement, cronyism, conflict of interest and the age old societal canker of corruption. We have lost count of the number of CEOs appointed to head Korle-Bu since 2001, who have had to contend with workers agitations for their removal. A former Minister of Health, Joseph Yile Chireh, was forced to sack a CEO, because the workers were accusing him of mismanagement, the dismissal was considered uninformed and he received a lot of bashing from some workers, as well as the general public. Not too long ago, Eddie Annan led Board was accused of misappropriation of funds and again the workers through the media agitated and called for the dissolution of the Board. Another storm is brewing at the Hospital as the Senior Staff of the hospital are accusing the Board and management of the hospital of spending more than one million Ghana Cedis on luxury vehicles, when there were pressing issues, such as non-availability of water and other challenges to deal with. The staff claim that although the Acting CEO, Rev. Albert Okpoti Botwe, already has an official vehicle the Board of Directors has given the green light for him to buy the latest Audi A6 car for his personal use. He has come out to deny and asked that if they have any prove they should bring it or shut up. For how long will the staff of Korle-Bu continue vilifying and chasing everybody away. No Angel will come down to manage the place, the earlier they began appreciating and making do with what they have the better. We hardly hear staff of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and Tamale Teaching Hospital asking for the removal of their CEOs or these regular and constant agitations from Korle-Bu Teaching hospital is becoming too much. The staff themselves are obviously the problem; because, you are either partof the problem or the solution, as things stand now, the staff are the problem.
