NDC Launches Operation One Million Votes

The Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) is to launch operation one million votes ahead of the 2016 general election. The Regional Organiser of the party, Alhaji Sannie Abdulai, told the Daily Graphic that elections were not won on the day of voting, but rather victory hinges on a long-term planning that is why we have to start now. He was addressing more than 300 party members at the end of a four-day training and trainers workshop ahead of the re-opening of the voters register. The limited voters registration exercise was scheduled to commence from June 20-29, 2014, but had to be postponed to allow for further consultations between the Electoral Commission (EC) and its stakeholders. According to Alhaji Abdulai, the regional secretariat of the NDC would soon roll out strategic plans revolving around the party executives, caucus of the foot soldiers, polling agents and the communications team to ensure that the party achieved its target of winning a million votes in the Ashanti Region. He called for vigilance across the political divide to ensure that minors were prevented from registering to safeguard the sanctity of the voters register. In another development, the NDC regional taskforce and Motor Riders Association have commended President John Dramani Mahama for the appointment of the former Regional Minister, Dr Kweku Agyemang-Mensah, as the new health minister. A statement signed and issued on Tuesday by the secretary of the association, Alhaji Ummar Saeed Usman, said the appointment of Dr Mensah did not come to them as a surprise due to his hard work and good human relationship which had helped to unify the partys rank and file while in the region. It was our desire that Dr Agyemang-Mensah was maintained as the Ashanti Regional Minister for him to continue with his good work of unifying the party, but the President knows best and where his competence will be best needed, the statement said. Dr Agyemang-Mensah takes over from Ms Sherry Ayittey, who has been moved to the Ministry of Fisheries in the recent reshuffle. The statement said Dr Agyemang-Mensah is the right man to develop the health ministry to give true meaning to the governments Better Ghana agenda slogan. We have absolute belief in him that he will not disappoint his admirers, as well as the President and the leadership of the party.
