The Chief Nursing Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Dr George Kumi Kyeremeh, has advised nurses and midwives to refrain from unprofessional conduct and acts that drag the name of the profession into disrepute. He said the ministry would not hesitate to deal with any nurse or midwife who would fail to abide by the ethics of the profession. He was speaking at the Seventh graduation ceremony of the School of Peri-Operative Nursing and Critical Care Nursing, Korle Bu, in Accra. Sixty-one student nurses were awarded certificates after an 18-month training in critical care and peri-operative nursing. Commitment In a speech read on her behalf, the outgoing Minister of Health, Mrs Sherry Ayittey, said the ministry would continue to work with the assistance of the international community to provide quality health care, and advised the graduands to treat their clients with love and care in pursuit of that objective. New development The Principal of the school, Mr Kwaku Asante-Krobea, said the institution was confronted with some challenges in the area of infrastructure and social amenities, and appealed to the ministry to assist in providing the school with transportation for the daily activities of students and tutors. He said the institution, with the assistance of some American partners, intended to begin courses for specialists in critical care, and indicated that the courses would create an avenue for field training for both continuing students and interns and also keep the nurses abreast of current trends.
