BECE Kicks Off Next Week

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that this year�s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will commence on Monday, June 16 and end Friday, June 20, 2014. According to Council, this years� time table has been revised to suit the various stakeholders in the sector. Before the change, some subjects were written together; for instance Mathematics and Integrated Science were written on the same day as result the pairing of two was not very favorable to the candidates. The Council further stressed that the plea of the candidates and some parents were taken into consideration as a result the efforts of WAEC to reform the system to make the examination more flexible As part of the reforms, this year�s BECE will not follow the normal six-day period rather it will last for a period of five days. All the candidates are expected to write two papers daily; that is paper two will be written immediately after the paper one is completed. It is expected that the candidates will start with English Language paper one and two and end the day with Religious and Moral Education paper. It will be followed by Integrated Science and Basic design and Technology on Tuesday; Mathematics and Ghanaian Language and Culture will be written on Wednesday. Thursday will have Social Studies and French will be written by candidates and conclude on Friday with Information and Communication Technology (ICT). There will be breaks on and before the commencement of the every second paper in each day of the examination.
