Soldiers Have Duty To Ensure Stability -Commander

The Commanding Officer of 3 BN who is also the 3 Garrison Commander, Lt. Col. Edward Awaribey has reiterated the call on the Army to remain alert, steadfast and dedicated to maintaining peace and stability in the country and the world in general. Lt. Col. Awaribey, who was speaking at the opening of the Ghana Army Inter Command and Formation Boxing Competition at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani, noted that as criminals get sophisticated with evolving techniques, training remains the cornerstone of every soldier. According to the Commanding Officer of the 3BN, more often than not, soldiers are required to defend themselves when the need arises, it is therefore imperative that the individual soldier is physically fit and imbued with self-defensive skills necessary to face any threat. Lt. Col. Awaribey noted that the objective of the competition include intensification of training with the view to improving on the physical endurance of soldiers within the Army, foster cooperation and friendship among the commands and formations, encourage all ranks, especially the young soldiers to take self-defense seriously and raise a formidable team to represent the Army in the forthcoming inter-service boxing competition. He urged the competing boxers to consider themselves the best in their respective formations and live up to the expectations and the trust reposed in them. Lt. Col. Awaribey expressed the hope that the soldiers would display the skills that they were best known for in a spirit of healthy rivalry, whilst they attach seriousness to the competition and display their boxing prowess, since it would go a long way to enhance their professional competence and discipline. The special guest of honor was Brigadier General Joseph Adu Boampong, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command who inspected the teams before the commencement of the competition. The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Justice Samuel Agyei was at the function.
