Danger On Achimota Interchange

The wear and tear that is setting in on the new Achimota interchange near the Achimota Bus Terminal is exposing motorists to danger. Metal bars put on the dual carriageway to aid expansion and contraction have worn out exposing iron rods that are a danger and could lead to tyre bursts. Speeding drivers have to swerve the pothole in order not to be involved in an accident. Sections of road crash barriers have been knocked off and pose a threat to pedestrians and motorists alike. There are also gaping potholes in the pedestrian walkways. The interchange was part of the seven-kilometer six-lane Kwame Nkrumah Circle to Achimota section of the Accra-Kumasi highway project that was completed in 2005. As part of that project, a number of add-ons, including a transport terminal near the Achimota School, a number of signalised intersections and a two-kilometre access road that leads to the industrial area at the Alajo Section were constructed.
