Leaders Should Not Be Pre-Occupied With Power

The Most Reverend Professor Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has challenged the leadership of the nation to be development-oriented to alleviate the plight of the people. This, he said, was the reason for their being entrusted with power, noting that, leadership was all about serving the people, in order to meet their aspirations for better lives. Our leaders should be mindful that they are in office to serve the people and not to lord it over them. It is, therefore, expected of them to be humble at all times, and always be committed to the cause of the people, he said. Most Rev. Prof. Asante was speaking at the inauguration and dedication of a Bishops manse at Effiduase in the Ashanti Region. The 12-unit well-furnished facility, constructed on the premises of the Effiduase Wesley Cathedral, is meant to accommodate the Diocesan Bishop, with provision for guest rooms. Most Rev. Prof. Asante lauded the congregation for their efforts in realizing the project, and entreated members of the church to be committed to the welfare of Ministers. We must accord our pastors the best of respect and treatment to enable them to propagate the Gospel effectively, he noted. The Right Reverend Moses Quayson, Effiduase Diocesan Bishop of the MCG, stressed the need for the congregation to always embark on self-help projects for the growth of the church.
