Two Cops Of Tamale Division And Driver In Police Grips

Two policemen from the Tamale Police formation In the Northern Region and a taxi driver are in the grips of the Bolgatanga Police for allegedly possessing arms. Corporal Francis Lormemtey of the Sakasaka Police station, Corporal Ernest Kensah of the Tamale District and Samuel Acheampong, a civilian who claimed to be a taxi driver, were arrested in Garu. Commissioner of Police Simon Afeku ,Upper East Regional Police Commander who briefed the media at the Police headquarters in Bolgatanga on Tuesday said at 10 hours on June 16, the Garu District Police had a tip-off from an informant about the three at a guest house in Garu . ACP Afeku said the three were arrested upon interrogation, and upon a search conducted on the room where they lodged, one AK 47 rifle, three magazines with 63 rounds of 7.64 mm ammunitions, one pistol with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunitions and a cash of GH₡15,021.20, were retrieved. He said the search also revealed a techno D5 mobile phone, one techno mobile phone and two police Identification cards bearing the names of the two policemen. According to the commander, upon interrogation, Cpl Kensah said he was the bodyguard of Justice Ayisi Addo of the Tamale High Court, and that the arms were issued to him to perform duties. He said the three alleged that they were in Garu to buy Ghana Old coins, Old singer machines and old schnapps bottles to go to Cinkasse in Togo. He said the three were preparing to commit crime, and added that investigations were on-going. He warned that the police administration would not condone with such behaviour, and would deal with them if found culpable, adding that � policemen were not angels and carrying of arms out of office caused an alarm�.
