Former UE NPP Regional Executives Accuse Regional Chairman For Sabotaging Alan

Some former Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Upper East Region have accused the Regional Chairman of the Party (NPP), Mr Adams Akalbila, for using his office to sabotage the chances of NPPs stalwart, Alan Kyeremanten, ahead of the December 6, 2014, flagbearership. the Media in Bolgatanga on Tuesday, the immediate-past Upper East Regional Organiser of the Party, Yaw Mort, alleged that the Regional Chairman was also undermining the National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko, and pursuing his own interest. The anger comes as the party prepares to hold a National Council meeting on Thursday June 19, 2014. The Regional Chairman, according to Mr. Mort, had deliberately violated the partys Constitution and said per the Partys constitution, the selection of the National Council members should be by elections or by consensus building. For the chairmen to sit down, beat their chests and handpick people is wrong. That is what the Regional Chairman in Upper East has done and his action could create disunity in the party and would affect the party's performance, come the 2016 election, Mr Mort indicated. The former Regional Organiser also entreated the partys National Executives, to as a matter of urgency, ask all Regional Chairmen in Northern Ghana, to ensure that only right people were chosen to represent the Region at the National Council. Speaking to the media, the immediate-past Regional Youth Organiser of the party, Michael Abogoro, also said the Regional Chairman had assumed a posturing that was bound to render the party unpopular in the region. Every five constituency by the constitution is supposed to be represented by a Council Member. We have 15 constituencies in the region, so we need three Council Members. So, in the case of Upper East, we have the Regional Chairman who is from Bolga here as an automatic Council Member by virtue of his position as Regional Chairman. Then, he picks two others from Bawku Zone and Navrongo. But the Regional Chairman picked two from Bolga, causing an imbalance. And it is all because of the flagbearership. It wouldnt have happened if the Regional Committee had met, Mr. Abogoro said. When contacted on telephone, the Regional Chairman said, he would react to the allegations at a more appropriate time.
