Sissala East Assembly Confirms Presidents Nominee

Mr. Johnson Juasuglo Saborh, a 61-year-old retired Educationist, has been confirmed as District Chief Executive for the Sissala East District. He polled 23 votes representing 77% of total vote casts by the 30 Assembly members who took part in the election. Five of the Assembly members voted against the Presidents nominee, with two spoilt ballots rejected by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) who supervised the election. The Sissala East District has been without a DCE for almost two years now, after the Assembly members rejected Mr. Moses Bavia who was initially nominated by the President for the position. Mr. Bede Ziedeng, out-going Upper West Regional Minister, thanked the Assembly members for confirming the Presidents second nominee. He urged them to support the new DCE with ideas so that they would run fast, in order to catch up with other districts that had their DCEs long ago. Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemana, out-going Minister of Roads and Highways, and the in-coming Upper West Regional Minister, said the absence of a DCE had tremendously affected the development of the district for far too long. He noted that the confirmation of Mr. Saborh signified the beginning of their resolve to build broken bridges, and forge ahead in unity to develop the district. Alhaji Sulemana described Mr. Saborh as a very firm person, hard working and an achiever, who was capable of moving the development agenda of the district forward. Alhaji Sulemana said he would not be able to do it, if the Assembly members, chiefs and opinion leaders in the district failed to rally solidly behind him. Mr Julius Debrah, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, thanked the Assembly members and all who supported the nominee, right from his appointment to his confirmation. He urged them to continue to remain united, and work together to make the decentralisation process meaningful to the people. Mr. Saborh thanked President John Mahama for nominating him, saying, he offered the district determination and hard work that would bring about positive change in the development of the district. He promised that he would avoid dividing and ranks of people in the district, but would rather unite and lead them so that they could together bring about the development that the people were yearning for. He said the common interest of majority of the people would remain paramount to him and not the interest of individuals or group of persons.
