Lead Crusade Against Corruption Chief Imam

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Imam Abdulmumin Haruna, has charged politicians to be at the forefront of the crusade against corruption by setting good examples for the citizens to emulate. He said until people in leadership like politicians decided to set good examples in society by eschewing corruption, the nations attempt at fighting corruption would not work. The Regional Chief Imam told the Daily Graphic at a memorial prayer service held in honour of some departed members of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the region since its inception 21 years ago. So far, 14 members of the council have died. Special prayers were also said for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, late Imams and chiefs of Zongo communities and also for peaceful co-existence of ethnic groups in the region and the nation as a whole. The ceremony was also to commemorate the 100 days in office of the newly elected executive of the council. Imam Abdulmumin Haruna appealed to all Ghanaians to pray for the leadership of the country, especially as the nation was going through economic turmoil, and the energy crisis. He urged the government to put in place an immediate stopgap as well as long-term measures to arrest the situation. The Ashanti Regional President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs, Chief Musah Akambonga, challenged residents of Zongo communities in the country to work towards maintaining peace at all levels. He called on all Zongo Chiefs to ensure that they worked hard to resolve all forms of conflicts in their areas to avoid escalation. Chief Akambonga commended the Asantehene for his support to the Council of Zongo Chiefs over the years and pledged to continue working hard to sustain the peace and tranquillity currently prevailing in all Zongo communities and the nation as a whole.
