Russian Woman Attacked

After nearly being defrauded to the tune of GH₵70,000 by a gang, whose leader claimed to be a senior police officer a week ago, the predicament of 33-year-old Russian lady is far from over. According to reports, Madam Marina Kovshova, a Russian residing in Ghana, was attacked by a gang of armed robbers at her East Legon residence on May 30, 2014. Items stolen from the victim included four mobile phones, two laptops, watches, two plasma television, jewels and cash of GH58,000. The matter, according to reports, is being investigated by the Legon District Police Command. Narrating her ordeal to DAILY GUIDE after the attack, the frightened Madam Marina Kovshova said this was the first time armed robbers had attacked her since she relocated to Ghana. That fateful day, I was supposed to go to court for a hearing on the three men who attempted to defraud me. Around 1 am on that fateful day, I was asleep in my house with a friend when three men wielding guns and knives broke into our room. My friend initially head a noise outside and when he attempted to find out what was happening, the three men flagged him, overpowered him before entering my room. The suspected armed robbers then pointed a gun to our heads and asked us to surrender our monies. My friends GH₵6000 cedis on him was taken away including my GH₵52,000. They also took other things before they left us. That morning, I lodged a complaint at the Legon Police Station for investigations to be conducted. It would be recalled that barely a week ago, the Accra Regional Police Command apprehended three persons who attempted to defraud the victim. The suspects are Timothy Asare, 44-year-old man, who posed as a senior police officer with the name DSP Amoako, Frank Amankwah, 48, and Samuel Obeng, 40. The suspects, led Timothy Asare, allegedly informed the victim that a case of fraud had been leveled against her by one Revaz Amarian at the police headquarters. DSP Amoako allegedly told the complainant that she had defrauded Revaz Amarian of an amount of one million dollars in a gold deal. He asked the Russian to report to his office at the police headquarters for the case to be resolved amicably. Suspect was reported to have also directed victim to bring along an amount of GH₵70,000 to prevent the case from being published in the media for her to be deported from Ghana. The victim, who felt she had not committed any offence, reported the incident to her lawyer who also informed the National Security operatives to track the said police officer. The victim was then advised to feign interest in the deal and cooperate with the said DSP Amoako. On June 1, 2014, around 3pm, the suspect directed the victim to meet him behind the police headquarters with the money. The victim went to the agreed location on that fateful day but under the surveillance of the national security operatives. The three then went to park their vehicle at a distance while Frank Amankwah was sent to meet the victim and collect the money. In an attempt to collect the money from the victim, Amoako was apprehended. He also led the national security operatives to apprehend the so-called DSP Amoako and Samuel Obeng, who were waiting in the vehicle for Amankwah.
