Gov�t To Import 200 MMT Buses

THE MINISTER for Transport, Dzifa Ativor has stated government would soon import 200 buses for the services of the Metro Mass Transit Company to help expand its services across the country. Mrs. Ativor stated that a loan agreement would soon be laid before Parliament for approval to enable government purchase the buses and expands its services to various districts and cities in the country. The Transport Minister said this on the floor of Parliament yesterday in response to questions from Member of Parliament (MP) for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza who sought to know when the MMT will extend its services to Adaklu Waya, the capital of the Adaklu District. Mrs. Ativor stated that a team would soon visit Adaklu district in July 2014 to conduct feasibility studies and upon completion, bus service would commence from the district capital to Ho, Aflao and Accra in the month of August. She further stated that out of the 1,019 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses, only 750 are in good condition. Mrs. Ativor said although all the buses were expected to be the on roads, it was not possible to get all the buses working always. The Minister added that in pursuit of the company�s mandate, a five year strategic plan has been developed and launched in Accra on May 14, 2014 �and the key elements of the plan include the expansion of bus service to all district capitals by 2015.�
